DESIGN APPROACH
The Space
For both large and small
spaces, the philosophy is to utilize the “whole” space in order
to provide a canvas for the concept, storyline or brand. The steps to developing
the “whole” space include:
1. Analyze both visual mass, and wall / floor space in order to:
• Establish basic exhibit size
• Plan traffic flow
• Meet code specifications
• Inspect electrical components to meet the needs of
the exhibits
2. Develop the plan
view and design elements:
• Overhead programs
• Graphics
• Signing
• Floor treatments
• Soundtracks
• Wall treatments
• Intermediary displays and effects with “specialty
zones”, movies and interactive multi-media touch stations, hands on interpretive
areas
• Lighting design
3. Ensure continuity:
• Utilization of a well planned series of connecting
elements between each unit
The Design
I design with three
controls in mind – quality, timeline and cost. This is accomplished
through the process of conceptual designing, master planning, creative direction
and thorough knowledge of available materials in association with fabrication
methods. I create bold, unique and “one of a kind” visuals without
“over-designing” in relation to difficult fabrication techniques
and complicated installation issues.
Modular design is one method to transform a well-developed plan into manageable
units for fabrication, installation and rotation within a space if need be.
Modular design units can also facilitate transportation and set-up for traveling
exhibits.
Creative Direction
In the development
stage, I will offer creative solutions with the use of innovative concepts and
unique designing within realistic facility requirements to keep the plan on
track. I then manage the design process efficiently into production readiness.
I am able to quickly adapt designs to meet unexpected complications or requirement
changes. While employing diverse resources, I work hand-in-hand with the client
and multi-vendor fabrication facilities to meet the project goals, remain in
budget, and meet the project deadline.
